The Marktplatz is a central square in the old town of Heidelberg. The market square is one of the oldest squares in the city and has fulfilled its eponymous function for as long as the square as such has existed. In the north and south it is bordered by rows of houses in the east of the market square is the town hall in the west the square is dominated by the Heiliggeistkirche.
