Laikipia – Maasai Mara
- Early breakfast at the hotel.
- Pick-up from the hotel and transfer to Wilson Airport. Feel your excitement build as you board a light aircraft to the Masai Mara. Maasai Mara National Reserve is an area of preserved Savannah wilderness covering an area of 1,510 square km (583 square miles), in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border and began the second part of your safari. The Masai Mara is home to some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa.
- If you are here in August or September, you may catch sight of the Great Migration, where two million wildebeest and zebra flood the grassy Savannah plains, and big cats lie in wait for the perfect moment to pounce.
- Year-round the wildlife here is incredible, though, with pods of hippos wallowing in the mud, herds of elephants, prides of lazy lions lounging on the top of the rocky kopjes and cheetah that have even been known to sit on the roof of a safari vehicle as a vantage point.
- For a real treat, take to the skies in a hot air balloon to get an aerial perspective. Serian adds to your traditional safari experience by offering a glimpse into traditional Masaai life by offering warrior training, great for teens - going jogging with the Maasai, learning to throw spears and earning your place in the tribe!
- Its animals include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and hippos. Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of Maasai people. As you fly over, gaze down at the sweeping plains dotted with acacia trees, and as you descend see scatterings of giraffes and elephants ambling over the Savannah.
- Upon arrival at the airstrip, your guide will greet you and take you game driving to your home for the next 3 nights, Speke’s Camp. This authentic tented camp is positioned on a private concession bordering the main reserve and is close to the Musiara Swamp, which is teeming with wildlife.
- Overnight stay at your camp.
